Owners of superyachts are increasingly choosing major bunker companies for their fuel needs over local options, Ship Management International reports

According to Ariane Graf of Guadeloupe Yacht Concierge in the Caribbean, recent years have seen a spike of global fuel companies with services tailored to providing superyachts with fuel on their trips around the world.

"We are receiving less and less requests for fuel from superyachts and yachts that are visiting Guadeloupe, as fuel companies are now going global and following their yacht clients to supply them everywhere they go," she said.

One example is London-headquarted Peninsula Petroleum Ltd, who has opened offices in Greece, Singapore, Dubai, Shanghai, Montevideo, and Tonsberg in the last decade.

Fellow London-based company Yacht Fuel Services also said that they had supplied over 500 million litres of fuel to superyachts in more than 2,000 ports and 48 countries.

Graf, however, assures that fuel quality is not lost even for those who choose to buy from yacht agents and service companies.

"We can still provide captains with high quality fuel on the island and competitive duty-free can soon be delivered to all yachts, whether they are private or commercial," she said.

Peninsula Petroleum announced early in the year that it had received $270 million in funding to expand its physical supply activity.
