ExxonMobil Monday in an emailed press release announced that its Mobil SHC Aware Gear Series, its line of high performance Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs), has received approvals from seal manufacturers Kemel Company (Kemel), Blohm & Voss Industries (BVI), and Hwaseung R&A.

The line of oils is also said to have received endorsements from thruster builders, such as Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd. (Nakashima), Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI), and KTE Co., Ltd (KTE) Nakashima Korea.

"Mobil SHC Aware Gear Series helps operators not only comply with the VGP legislation but it also raises the bar in terms of equipment protection," asserted Iain White, ExxonMobil Marine Fuels and Lubricants' global marketing manager, of the lubricants which are said to comply with the U.S. Vessel General Permit (VGP).

"These manufacturer approvals are further proof that Mobil SHC Aware Gear Series can offer long oil life even when operating under extreme conditions."

ExxonMobil asserts that the SHC Aware Gear Series provides protection against wear, rust, and corrosion, and notes that the product offers "outstanding" oxidation properties that prolong oil life, as well as enabling a wide operating temperature range, including a low temperature start-up.

The series, which is said to be comprised of three grades, including Mobil SHC Aware Gear 68, 100, and 150, are also said to protect from cavitation, featuring a seal compatibility that helps minimize leaks.

Last week, ExxonMobil said that its line of specialist fuels designed for compliance with Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations are proving successful within the market, having witnessed both increasing sales coupled with "major vessel operators" advocating the use of its ExxonMobil Premium AFME 200 and ExxonMobil Premium HDME 50.
