Norwegian Cruise Line will install exhaust gas scrubbers on six of its ships, according to Green Tech Marine (Green Tech), which is supplying the systems.

The retrofit installation of 28 scrubbers on the ships, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Sun, will take place between this spring and 2016.

Green Tech is also supplying 10 scrubbers for two new ships, Norwegian Escape and Norwegian Bliss, now under construction at Meyer Werft in Germany.

"We remain committed to environmental protection at Norwegian Cruise Line," said the cruise line's CEO, Kevin Sheehan.

"Therefore, it is important for us to invest in new technologies, such as Green Tech's innovative scrubber systems, in order to reduce fuel emissions, overall energy consumption, and the company's environmental footprint."

Green Tech provided scrubbers for Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America last year, in what the supplier called the biggest marine scrubber installation to date at that time.

"We are very pleased to have Norwegian Cruise Line as a returning customer," said Green Tech CEO Peter Strandberg.

"The decision to install scrubber systems on six additional ships demonstrates Norwegian Cruise Line's commitment to environmental regulations and reaffirms that Green Tech Marine's scrubbers have taken a strong position in the exhaust gas cleaning market."
