Norway-based Clean Marine A/S has won a contract to install its exhaust gas cleaning system (EGCS) on two new medium-range tankers.

The two vessels are currently being built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea for a major British oil player to help the company meet upcoming Emission Control Area (ECA) sulfur regulations.

Beginning next year, sulfur content in marine fuel used in ECAs cannot exceed 0.10 percent by weight.

"These contracts confirm the growing market demand for Clean Marine's Allstream EGCS, which is a particularly competitive solution for the tanker segment" says Nils Høy-Petersen, CEO of Clean Marine.

"We are very pleased to be working closely with Hyundai Mipo to deliver a cost-effective solution to help the owner comply with existing and pending emissions regulations."

The two ships are a part of a series of five sister vessels, with EGCS installation expected in 2016.

Clean Marine said that its system is designed to clean 100,000 kg of exhaust per hour, and will remove sulfur oxide emissions from a main engine, two auxiliary engines and one boiler.

Its EGCS is also operable in both open loop and closed loop.

The company also won a contract last year to install its EGCS aboard a very large gas carrier built by Hyundai Heavy Industries
