France-based Ecoslops, which produces recycled marine fuel from marine oil residue (slops) at its refinery in Portugal, has announced it is "operating well" after having completed its first sale of marine fuel (MDO), a 1,000 tonne order by a European operator, and the importation of its second 3,000 tonne shipment of slops.

Ecoslops says that the slops, which were brought in from Northern Europe, are a signal that the company is "ramping up" its production.

Vincent Favier, CEO of Ecoslops says that the news of the sale and new shipment of slops "prove that our Sines industrial tool is operating well and show the pertinence of our business model based on the recycling of oil residue from shipping."

"It is also the materialisation of the efforts undertaken in recent months that have proved that our first plant is capable of producing substantial volumes of high-quality fuel as demanded by our end clients."

The company notes that the European operator responsible for the company's first MDO sale, specialises in maritime bunkers, and adds that the fuel complied with the ISO 8217 standard.

"Our confidence has been further increased by these elements, and our search for new sites has thus immediately been stepped up," concluded Favier.

Last week, Ecoslops said its refinery in Portugal's Port of Sinès has bergun industrial production.

In March, Ecoslops announced that both its distillate marine fuel (MDO) and its residual marine oil (IFO 380), have met and exceeded ISO 8217 specifications.
