France-based Ecoslops, which creates recycled marine fuel out of marine oil residue, has announced that both its distillate marine fuel (MDO) and its residual marine oil (IFO 380), have met and exceeded ISO 8217 specifications.

The company's process sees a ship's "slops," the name given to a mix of fuel, water, sediment and other pollutants, distilled into useable marine fuel.

According to Ecoslops, both fuels surpassed minimum requirements for viscosity, cetane number, and sulfur and ash content, with the MDO containing only 0.001 percent ash content compared to the regulatory maximum of 0.010 percent.

The certification will allow the company to begin pricing its fuels for global sale, with their quality allowing for them to be priced at the higher range of the bunkering market, said Ecoslops.

The analysis was done by fuel testing agency SGS, who tested samples coming from the Ecoslop's Sines facility in Portugal

Last month, the company launched its initial public offering (IPO) on Euronext Paris's Alternext market.
