Irish Shipping Company Orders Two Eco-Ships
Thursday August 15, 2013
Ireland's Ardmore Shipping Corp. [NYSE:ACS] (Ardmore) says it has ordered two new eco-design, IMO-2 37,000 dead-weight-tonne (dwt) chemical tankers for about $32.7 million each.
Ardmore ordered the ships from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd. (HMD) of South Korea, and the contracts also include fixed-price options for additional vessels.
The two ships will be delivered between the fourth quarter of 2014 and the first quarter of 2015.
Ardmore, which has an existing fleet of five product tankers and three chemical carriers, already has eight ships on order from SPP Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. of South Korea.
The company launched its initial public offering last month, saying it would use some proceeds from the offering to expand its fleet.
