China's sales of bunker fuel rose about 5 percent in 2012, to 11 million metric tonnes (mt), up from 10.5 million mt in 2011, according to a Platts survey of suppliers and trade sources.

The growth appears to be attributed almost entirely to sales from Sinopec Zhoushan who said its volumes were up, but declined to reveal specific numbers.

Sales for the nation's largest bunker supplier, Chimbusco, fell from more than 6 million mt in 2011 to between 5.8 and 6 million in 2012.

Another supplier source said sales at four other bunker fuel suppliers, China Changjiang Bunker Company, Sinobunker, Brightoil, and CNPC & TAFO, were lower in 2012 than 2011.

Bunker sales in Singapore, the world's largest bunkering port by volume, fell 1.2 percent in 2012, although cargo volumes at the port rose.
