Legal action has been taken against an unnamed fuel supplier for illegally conducting bunkering operations in Dubai waters, according to a notice posted by the Gulf Agency Company (GAC).

The Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) is said to have fined the unnamed company for violating government regulations by not obtaining the necessary permissions and approvals.

The amount of the fine as well as the that of the bunkering fuel sold was not disclosed by GAC.

Ship & Bunker has not yet received a response from DMCA requesting further information regarding the matter.

In wake of the incident, which was recorded in a November 8 DMCA city notice, the DMCA “calls upon all ships’ owners, ships, agents and bunker providers to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Emirate, and ensure all necessary permissions are obtained from DMCA before conducting any bunkering operations by barges.”

Dubai, which last year established a maritime arbitration centre to settle disputes involving maritime trade in the Middle East, is said to be on track to become one of the world's leading maritime centres in the next five years.,
