Singapore-owned Galborg Pte LTD (Galborg) is suing for breach of contract through the U.S. Southern District of Texas' Houston Division, alleging that the company was supplied contaminated bunkers, causing $602,773.42 in damages.

Local media reports indicate Galborg, through its representation William A. Durham in Houston, lodged the complaint against Kristensons-Petroleum Inc., and Minerva Bunkers Pte LTD, as well as Buffalo Marine Services Inc. and its barge Buffalo 90.

The company says that it purchased bunker fuel for its vessel Silverfjord from the accused parties on July 8, 2015.

Galborg says the bunkers were contaminated with methacrylate polymer, resulting in damage to the vessel.

As a result, Galborg is said to be suing for compensation to cover total damages acquired, as well as pre and post-judgment interest and fees.

In February, Ship & Bunker reported that Raghuvir Bhavnani, Vice President of Viswalab Singapore Pte Ltd (Viswa Lab), said that Clause 5 and Annex B of ISO8217:2010 are lopsided in favour of bunker suppliers, protecting them from penalty if engine failure occurs as a result of poor quality or contaminated bunker fuel.
