Astomos Energy Corporation (Astomos) today announced that it has agreed with Statoil ASA (Statoil) to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for further study of the application of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as bunkers.

"LPG bunkering concept was shaped as one of the solutions for the approaching SOx Regulation for shipping fuels in 2020," said Astomos.

The agreement is said to be intended to see the two companies share and research information for the further consideration of LPG-fuelled vessels, development of global supply sites for LPG bunkering, and other areas related to LPG bunkering.

"For the past years, Astomos and Statoil have been forming respectable business partnership in the fields of seaborne LPG trading all around the world," explained Astomos.

"This MOU made stronger partnership for two companies and will contribute to expansion of new business fields."

In March, Ship & Bunker reported that Astomos was intending to work with Japan's other top LPG importers, possibly within the next year, to explore the feasibility of establishing LPG bunkering ahead of 2020.
