Firm to Produce Commercial Volumes of Synthetic Fuel from Mid-2013
Synthetic fuel oil (SFO) firm Quadrise Fuels International PLC (QFI) [LON:QFI] says it anticipates "commercial volumes" of its Marine MSAR2 SFO will be produced progressively from mid-2013, and it remains on track for full commercial roll-out during 2014.
The announcement follows completion of tests last year of the SFO as a bunker fuel by A.P. Møller-Maersk and "a leading marine engine manufacturer."
QFI said the tests successfully demonstrated the general efficacy and performance of the fuel as intended, but the specifics would remain confidential to the participating parties.
"The sea trials conducted last year provided valuable and pioneering insight into the use of Marine MSAR as bunker fuel. We are delighted by the results of the recent tests on Marine MSAR 2 on an advanced 2-stroke engine that were a necessary precursor to the Company entering the commercial phase during 2013," commented QFI Executive Chairman Ian Williams.
"We look forward to concluding agreements with our partners and delivering commercial volumes of Marine MSAR 2 during 2013. Once again we thank our distinguished partners in this 'game changing' venture for their continued enthusiasm and support."
QFI said that producing commercial volumes of the fuel would allow it wider evaluation of performance across a representative range of vessels prior to the full commercial roll-out.
In October to company said the synthetic fuel could help with the uptake of scrubbers if Emissions Control Area (ECA) rules changed to being emissions based rather than fuel quality based.
