Prysmian Group (Prysmian) Tuesday announced that it is set to supply cables that provide energy generated from renewable sources to the motor of the Energy Observer - a hydrogen-powered yacht slated to embark on a zero-emissions around-the-world voyage.

Prysmian was selected as the official supplier of cables for the vessel by Energy Observer and CEA Liten, the research institute that developed the project.

"We are extremely proud to take part in the Energy Observer project and provide our contribution in the form of our knowledge and technology," said Alain Jeanguillame, Director of the Aerospace Business Unit of Prysmian.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, the vessel is said to be able to generate hydrogen from 130 m2 of solar panels, two wind turbines, a traction kite, and two reversible electric motors - understood to be the first vessel to be able to produce its own fuel without any greenhouse gas emissions.
