Rolls-Royce Gets Repeat Order for Fuel-Efficient Vessel
Rolls-Royce says it has signed a repeat order with Sølvtrans AS (Sølvtrans) for a fuel-efficient ship that can transport live fish from fish farms to processing plants.
"This new vessel will be built according to the same specifications as the first with a high level of technology and environmental solutions," said Monrad Hide, the company's general manager for fishing vessels.
"Our innovative hull design ensures cost effective operations and fuel efficiency as well as low emissions to air and sea."
The ship will be able to hold 400 tonnes of live fish in temperature-controlled tanks, and it also features a diesel-electric propulsion system with two Rolls-Royce Bergen C6 diesel engines and a hybrid shaft generator that reduced energy consumed on board.
The vessel will be built at Zamakona shipyard in Spain, with expected delivery in early 2014.
The first ship of the same type is due for delivery in June, and the new contract includes options for two more of the vessels.
Sølvtrans, which is based in Norway, says it uses technology on its vessels that cools fish and minimises the risk of contamination from external sources.
