France-based Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) Thursday announced it has received Approval in Principle (AIP) from China Classification Society (CCS) for its cargo handling system designed for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering ship concept.

"We are very pleased to receive this AIP from CCS. Our cooperation in China is growing throughout the years and we are looking forward to further working together with CCS and our other Chinese partners on projects related to small scale LNG infrastructures and use of LNG as marine fuel, which are promising markets in China," said Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT.

The news comes just a week after GTT announced that its LNGreen project, a joint effort with DNV GL Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd (HHI), and shipowner GasLog Ltd, received the Innovation Award from CWC Group at the World LNG Summit that was hosted in Rome from December 1 to 4.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, the LNGreen joint industry project has developed a "state-of-the-art" next-generation LNG carrier with an estimated 8 percent more energy efficient design and a 5 percent increased cargo capacity.

"We are very proud of this acknowledgement of GTT's innovation efforts and our ability to work closely with industry partners," commented Berterottière.

"This is also the second time in three years that GTT has received the CWC innovation award. This underlines the fantastic potential of the GTT 'innovation machine.'"

In October, Ship & Bunker reported that classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) announced it had granted an AIP to a new LNG bunkering ship designed by GTT.
