Two Eco-Design Chemical Carriers Ordered
Anglo-Atlantic Steamship Company Ltd. (Anglo-Atlantic) has ordered two "eco-design" chemical carriers to be managed by Laurin Maritime, the companies announced.
Samjin Shipbuilding Industries Co. Ltd. will build the two 50,000 deadweight-tonne, IMO II class vessels in China, and the order includes an option for two more ships.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2015, and the two options could be delivered in the first half of 2016.
Anglo-Atlantic will use the vessels as part of a fleet renewal program, supplementing existing ships with an average age of 6.4 years.
"Moreover, as freight markets are recovering, we have already seen increases in new-building prices," the companies said.
"The timing of ordering these vessels is ideal and they will be delivered at a time when we expect the markets to have strengthened considerably."
Anglo-Atlantic owns a majority share in 11 tankers and has five more on time charter.
The two companies have worked together previously, including in 2011, when they announced that Anglo-Atlantic had time-chartered five vessels from Marflet for two years, with Laurin Maritime appointed to manage the ships.
