Construction of an oil jetty, which is expected to support the distribution of bunkers in the region, is set to begin in Kisumu, Kenya on Lake Victoria, the country's Ministry of Energy confirmed Monday, Kenyan media reports.

"The government is committed to ensuring smooth and quick delivery of oil and other petroleum products and the construction of this jetty is a confirmation," said Charles Keter, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum.

Keter says the jetty is expected to boost the competitiveness of state-owned Kenya Pipeline Company's (KPC's) in the region and grow the export market through the creation of an integrated marine fuel transportation system.
