As a result of "recent moderation" in bunker fuel prices, Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson) says it will drop the bunker surcharge for its Hawaii service this Sunday, April 28, 2013, by 3.5 percentage points, from 40 percent to 36.5 percent.

The change follows last month's drop of 3.5 percentage points from 43.5 percent to 40 percent for its Hawaii service, which came after an increase of 4.5 percentage points effective October 7, 2012.

The bunker surcharge for Matson's Guam/CNMI and Micronesia services remains unchanged at 36.5 percent.

"We are pleased to make this second consecutive downward adjustment to our fuel surcharge, which for most customers represents a reduction in shipping costs ranging from $80 to $140 per container," Dave Hoppes, senior vice president, ocean services, said in an email to customers.

"We have been encouraged by the recent moderation in bunker fuel prices, and remain focused on diligently exploring ways in which we can maximize fuel efficiency for our fleet," Hoppes added.
