Incat Crowther has unveiled the design of a new fleet of fuel-efficient vessels for Hornblower, New York City’s new Citywide Ferry Service operator.

The vessel design features low wash, high fuel efficiency, and low emissions, says Incat Crowther, noting that the vessels will also be capable of cold water operation.

"Incat Crowther was selected because of their specialisation and vast experience in naval architecture and design of efficient passenger ferries," said Junior Volpe, Director of Special Projects for Hornblower.

The vessel design is said to have been developed in close cooperation with Hornblower.

"Incat Crowther is proud to be involved in such a significant project in one of the busiest cities in the world. We look forward to solidifying our position as a world leader for vessel designs in this type of operation," said Grant Pecoraro, General Manager of Incat Crowther’s North America office.

The new ferry fleet is said to be part of New York City's plan to create a network of ferries to serve the entire city by the end of 2018.

The new ferry network is expected provide 4.6 million passenger trips per year once upon completion.

"The vessels will form the backbone of a modern, comfortable, and efficient urban ferry fleet that will be New York City’s first city-wide ferry system in over 100 years," stated Incat Crowther.

Last year, Singapore's Majestic Ferries ordered four 33m catamaran passenger ferries, designed by Incat Crowther and said to offer significant fuel savings.
