U.S.-based energy company WesPac Midstream LLC (WesPac) is planning a $600 million project including a facility that would produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers at Port MacKenzie, Alaska, industry news site HHP Insight reports.

The 250,000-gallon-per-day liquefaction plant would supply LNG fuel to current diesel users, including ships.

"Our objectives in Alaska are to build, own and operate new scalable midstream LNG facilities in the Cook Inlet," said Senior Vice President Brad Barnds.

"We're intending to do this with private investment only.

"There would be no state subsidies whatsoever."

The company, which is majority owned by private equity firms Highstar Capital and Oaktree Capital, is seeking a lease at a 100-acre site in Cook Inlet, near Anchorage.

WesPac already has plans to supply LNG bunkers to TOTE Inc. in Florida, and Barnds said the company is working "behind the scenes" to support the company's dual-fuel containership serving Alaska.
