With a number of liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering and storage facilities planned in the Jacksonville, Florida area, Marine Firefighting Inc. (Marine Firefighting) has announced in an emailed statement that it recently joined forces with Gas Technology Institute (GTI) to train 150 Port of Jacksonville area stakeholders on LNG bunkering awareness and safety.

"This training was the first step in future LNG specific training dealing with the LNG bunkering and storage facilities planned for Jacksonville," said Marine Firefighting.

"This first class was a basic LNG awareness and safety class for first responders in the Jacksonville area. The participants received the instruction by Tom Guldner who is president of Marine Firefighting Inc. Tom has been training Mariners and Firefighters about LNG for over 14-years."

The training program was said to be funded by a group of companies with current LNG projects underway, including TOTE Inc.'s (TOTE's) Sea Star Line, JAX LNG, LLC., the Florida East Coast Railway, the Crowley Maritime Corporation, and Eagle LNG Partners.

The training was said to have been developed specifically for the participants, "especially local first responders, and included firefighters from the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Departments, the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville, and area law enforcement."

Last week Ship & Bunker reported that General Dynamics NASSCO (NASSCO) announced it has launched the second of two LNG powered containerships built for TOTE.
