The number of bunkering vessels in Singapore that have been fitted with an approved mass flow metering (MFM) system has not fallen in recent weeks despite some data indicating otherwise, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has told Ship & Bunker.

The clarification comes after the latest MPA information correct to January 6, 2017 indicated there were a total of 132 licenced bunker tankers with approved MFM systems.

In contrast, official figures from last month indicated there were 135 licenced bunkering vessels equipped with MPA approved MFMs, and since then there has also been one additional barge that was approved earlier this month.

However, MPA has confirmed there are indeed now 136 bunker vessels equipped with MFMs in Singapore.

"As of 13 Jan 2017, MPA has approved a total of 136 bunker tankers for MFM delivery in the Port. Of these, four bunker tankers are currently undergoing a change in ownership and do not have any bunker craft operator licensee appointed," an MPA spokesperson told Ship & Bunker.

"The list of bunker tankers on our website is regularly updated to reflect such changes."

The MPA's list of licensed bunker tankers can be found here: http://www.mpa.gov.sg/web/portal/home/port-of-singapore/port-operations/bunkering/bunkering-services-providers/bunker-tankers

Use of MFMs for HFO bunkering in Singapore has been mandatory since January 1, 2017.
