Vitol Tanks Terminals International (VTTI), owner and operator of the ATB Oil Terminal (ATB) in the Port of Pelepas, Tanjung Bin, Malaysia, has said the facility has received its first shipment of fuel oil.

The announcement said that the 100,000 DWT tanker MT “Kition” successfully discharged at ATB's VLCC berth.

The company said it "represents a significant milestone for the ATB oil terminal, offering new storage and logistics opportunities for petroleum products in the Singapore region at competitive rates."

According to a VTTI spokesman, fuel oil can be loaded at a rate of 7,500 cbm/ hour, middle distillates at 7,000 cbm/ hour and light ends at 5,500 cbm/ hour with up to 15 simultaneous operations.

Work on the terminal's fuel oil tanks is complete, while work on the middle distillates and gasoline tanks, are nearing completion and will be available for commercial use later in April.

ATB management is in the planning stages for a second expansion phase, with the ultimate goal of building 1.6 million cubic meters of storage at the site by the third quarter of 2013.

VTTI has 50/ 50 ownership between Rotterdam's Vitol Group, and international shipping line Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC Berhad) who bought 50% of VTTI for $735 million in May 2010.
