The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) has hired a new head for its Singapore office to focus on expanding its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, the organisation announced in an emailed release.

According to IBIA, the appointment of Jason Leong to the head position is "central" to its ambitions as it hopes to boost membership and raise its profile in the region.

"He brings a wealth of expertise to the Asian arm of our operation and is exactly the right person to help us achieve our growth strategy in that region," said IBIA Chief Executive Peter Hall

Leong comes with a "deep knowledge of Asia-Pacific markets," and has also previously worked in the marine lubricants sector for Castrol, Chevron, and Hess Corporation, the organization added.

In addition, Michelle Mo has also been hired as an administrator to help manage the Singapore office.

"Jason and Michelle will make a great team and I am looking forward to the contribution they will make to IBIA as well as the impact they will have on the Asian bunkering scene," Hall said.

"Their appointments come at a time when the demand for our mass flow meter courses continues to rise, as does demand for our SS600 and enhanced bunker cargo officer courses."

It was reported in November last year that the IBIA's mass flow meter course had gained accreditation from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
