MPA Introduce More Detailed Bunker Supplier Information
Singapore's Minister for Transport, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, has announced the port will provide more detailed information on the bunker suppliers in the port as part of number of new initiatives, all aimed at enhancing the quality of bunkering in Singapore.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 17th Singapore International Bunkering Conference and Exhibition (SIBCON), Minister Lui said Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will publish the information sheet on licensed bunker suppliers in the Port of Singapore in its efforts to allow shipowners to make more informed decisions in appointing bunker suppliers.
The port already publishes a list of who the accredited bunker suppliers actually are, as well as a list of the previous year's top 20 bunker suppliers.
The new list now has information for each supplier showing the grades of fuel they supply, whether they are a licensed bunker craft operator, where they rank in terms of bunker sales volume, their use of double hulled bunker tankers, the supplier's use of mass flow meters and use fuel testing programmes, and a combined ranking for "key performance indicators" that include craft operations records, bunker supply records, and customer feedback records.
"This information sheet will enhance transparency across the bunkering supply chain by providing details on sales performance, technical performance and other value-added propositions," said Lui.
The information sheet is available now on MPA's corporate website at and will be updated every six months.
Other initiatives announced today include efforts to tackle recent allegations of so called "Cappuccino bunkers" being delivered in Singapore, and the introduction of a step-by-step industry guide to encourage more bunker players to adopt mass flow meters.
