Japan's Bonded Bunker Sales Fell Almost 11% in May

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Monday released data showing that the country sold 1.418 million barrels of bonded bunker fuel in May, a reduction of 10.7 percent from the previous month, and down 23.2 percent year on year. Platts reports.
April bonded marine diesel oil sales reportedly dropped 0.6 percent from April, but rose to 51,572 barrels, or 80.5 percent year on year.
Japan is said to have imported 31,373 barrels of the tax exempt bunker fuel for May, which is down 61.2 percent year on year.
In June, it was reported that Japan wants ships to switch to liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help cut carbon emissions and diversify energy sources in the freight sector for security reasons.
