Bunker Spill After Vessel Collision in Singapore
A tanker and a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier have collided in Singapore waters resulting in a bunker spill from a breached bunker tank, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said Sunday.
MPA said at 2:00pm local time on Sunday afternoon it was notified of the collision between the 57,000 dwt Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier Sunny Horizon and the 4,998 dwt Korean-registered LPG carrier DL Salvia at the Temasek Fairway in the South West of the country, about 700 metres east of Sultan Shoal between Jurong Island and the Tuas View Extension area.
The bunker tank on the DL Salvia was breached and "less than 60 metric tonnes of bunker was spilled."
MPA said patrol craft to deal with the oil spill, which is concentrated within Temasek Fairway, were dispatched immediately upon their notification of the incident.
Oil spill response companies were also activated and a total of seven patrol and anti-pollution craft have been deployed to clean up the spilled oil, with MPA saying it is co-ordinating the operation with other government agencies and the ship owners.
The two vessels involved in the collision are currently safely anchored in the West Jurong anchorage. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision and port operations were said to be unaffected.
MPA said it is investigating the cause of the collision.
