LR Awarded Singapore LNG Bunkering Contract by MPA
Lloyd's Register (LR) says it has won a contract from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) to develop operational procedures and technical standards required to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering capabilities in the Port of Singapore.
LR say the project, which has already commenced, will see them identify technical specifications, LNG bunkering procedures, and develop crew competency for LNG bunkering, all with the goal of supporting the development of LNG bunkering capabilities and infrastructure at the port.
Ng Kean Seng, Marine Country Manager for Lloyd's Register in Singapore, said: "Singapore is supporting efforts to create a clean fuel future for global shipping by developing LNG bunkering operations. We are supporting Singapore in realising that ambition.
"We have assembled a global team experienced in addressing the requirements and in identifying what needs to be done to really address safety and the operational issues to make safe LNG bunkering possible."
Guidance that will be provided to MPA will include identification of the technical specifications for LNG bunkering hardware, operational procedures, port safety and emergency planning, and ensuring measures for effective personnel competence are in place.
MPA's Assistant Chief Executive (Operations), Captain M Segar, said last October that the port plans to start supplying LNG as a marine fuel by 2015.
