Power and automation technology company ABB says three out of four nominees for Nor-Shipping's Energy Efficiency Award use its systems: Viking Line's Viking Grace, CMA CGM's Marco Polo, and Myklebusthaug Management's Dina Star.

"This underlines ABB's leading position in providing innovative and energy efficient solutions in the maritime industry," said Heikki Soljama, head of ABB Marine and Cranes business unit.

"Energy efficiency has always been one of our key business drivers, and customers benefit by partnering with one experienced supplier offering integrated power and automation, and energy management."

Viking Grace, the world's first dual-fuel large passenger ship capable of running on liquefied natural gas (LNG), uses an ABB electrical power plant, propulsion system, and energy management system.

Marco Polo has ABB's OCTOPUS advisory system, which analyses wave measurements, weather forecasts, navigation data, and other information to advise ships on routes, speeds, and fuel consumption.

Dina Star is the first ship to use ABB's full Onboard DC grid system, which integrates all power, propulsion, automation, and advisory systems, providing up to 20 percent fuel savings.

Nor-Shipping will be held from June 4 to June 7 this year in Oslo, Norway.

The fourth ship nominated for the energy efficiency award is Fjord Lines' Stavangerfjord, which will run on LNG only engines.
