Gazpromneft-Lubricants LLC (Gazpromneft-Lubricants) says it has completed spill response exercises at the Big Port St. Petersburg and the Port of Murmansk in order to test team preparedness for spill response when bunkering lubricants to vessels at berth.

The exercises are said to have included maneuvers for oil product spill containment, and examined various response options for oil product spills during loading operations.

"Strict adherence to the safety precautions is one of the major priorities of our Company," said Alexander Trukhan, CEO of Gazpromnef-Lubricants, adding: "when performing bunkering from berth, we ensure the process in such a manner that possibility of emergencies is extremely low."

"We understand that safety may only be guaranteed by the complete preparedness that our specialists have in any abnormal environment. For this very reason we carry out training and drilling sessions on the regular basis which helps proving a higher level of skills our personnel has."

In February, BIMCO said it had begun work with the International Spill Control Organisation (ISCO) for the development of a standard contract for hiring of spill response services and equipment, intended for use by shipowners who have had a spill caused by one of their vessels and need to hire a contractor to perform clean-up services.
