Germany-based Softship has launched a new liner-segment focused operations software solution to help with bunker management, the company announced this week.

The packaged system is reportedly meant to complement the company's existing vessel scheduling software.

In addition to bunkers, Softship said that its software can also aid in vessel reporting, capacity planning, ship mapping and can provide needed information and checklists.

"We always listen to our customers and this new package has been developed to meet real concerns and issues that are currently being voiced in the marketplace," said Executive Director Thomas Wolff

"Bunker costs, for example, represent a very significant slice of a carrier’s costs and our customers wanted a tool which would allow them see, immediately, the impact on bunker consumption for a variety of schedule change scenarios."

The company also added that the nature of packaged software also means that it can be offered at a fraction of the price of bespoke software.
