KNUD E. HANSEN A/S (KNUD E. HANSEN) Thursday announced that it received the ShipPax Award for the "revolutionary" and efficient design of the Con-Ro vessel Atlantic Star at the Ferry Shipping Conference 2016, noting that the vessel boasts a 50 percent reduction in fuel consumption per TEU.

The 3,800 TEU capacity vessel, which was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. for Atlantic Container Line AB, is also said to have a design that enables a 10 percent increase in speed.

"The Atlantic Star is an extremely efficient vessel – in terms of carrying capacity and fuel savings," said Finn Wollesen Petersen, KNUD E. HANSEN's Managing Director.

"We are very proud to have been involved in this project. Winning this ShipPax Award makes it even better."

The company explains that the vessel features a transom stern and high efficiency rudder, as well as a single screw fixed pitch propeller that is directly driven by a slow speed diesel engine.
