Gazprom Neft Marine Bunker, a division of Russia's Gazprom, says it has purchased its first bunker tanker for use in the Primorye sea ports along the Sea of Japan.
The vessel, Gazprom Neft Zuid East, is a 6,800 deadweight tonne (dwt) tanker built in 2012.
"With the acquisition of a new vessel, the Company will be able to significantly strengthen its position in the fast evolving bunker market in the Far East," said Andrey Vasilyev, CEO of Gazprom Neft Marine Bunker.
Vasilyev said the company has increased its refueling in the Far East by 80 percent year-over-year in the first nine months of 2012, to 272,300 tonnes.
"In the future, the Company intends to increase the bunker fuel sales and expand the geography of operations in Russia and abroad," he said.
The company says it has a market share of 18.5 percent of the Russian bunker market and operates in 15 sea ports, including the Far East ports of Nakhodka, Vladivostok, Sakhalin, and Kozmino, as well as nine river ports.
The company says it plans to increase its sales of ship fuel from 2.2 million tonnes in 2011 to 7 million tonnes in 2020 by extending its activities in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
