The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Friday announced the launch of a website for its Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project, glomeep.imo.org.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, GloMEEP is a joint effort of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IMO, aimed at encouraging the adoption of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries.

IMO says that the website is intended to provide important information and updates on the GloMEEP project, and notes that it includes an information portal on energy efficiency technologies, covering areas such as machinery, propulsion and hull optimisation, and energy recovery.

"The portal builds on the work undertaken by IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee to promote technical cooperation and technology transfer relating to improving the energy efficiency of ships," stated IMO.

Alongside the news, IMO also announced that the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) has joined GloMEEP as a strategic partner, joining the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology (IMarEST).

In July, IMO announced as part of the GloMEEP project it held a three-day workshop in Rabat, Morocco to raise awareness of IMO's regulatory regime for improving energy efficiency and controlling green house gas (GHG) emissions.
