The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Thursday announced it held a three day workshop in Rabat, Morocco to raise awareness of IMO's regulatory regime for improving energy efficiency and controlling green house gas (GHG) emissions.

The workshop, held from July 19-21, was organized under IMO's Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project, of which Morocco is one of the 10 lead pilot countries.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, GloMEEP is a joint effort of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IMO, aimed at encouraging the adoption of energy efficiency measures for shipping in developing countries.

IMO notes that the First National Task Force meeting was also set to be held in the country on Thursday to endorse the National Work Plan of activities under the GloMEEP project over the next two years.

The meeting was expected include decisions on which bodies will hold responsibility for different GloMEEP activities.

In May, IMO held a similar workshop under the GloMEEP Project in Johor, Malaysia.
