OW Bunker Collapse: 10-15 Vessels Arrested
Belgian fuel supplier Wiljo is in the process of seizing between 10-15 ships in connection with recently bankrupt OW Bunker, reports ShippingWatch.
An arrest warrant has been issued, according to Wiljo CCO Ronald Verheyen, who has also been proceeding with the help of French debt recovery specialist Coface.
"We acted as soon as we heard about the OW Bunker case on Friday," he said.
"Our lawyers are on the case, and we're now working with Coface to do all we can to secure our claim."
He also said that the targeted vessels are in various places around the world, while declining to comment on the specifics of where and the type of vessels involved.
Wiljo is currently on the hook for about $10 million, though Verheyen assured that the company was sufficiently covered by its insurance.
He also took aim at those in the industry who have made moves to benefit from OW Bunker's collapse by taking over in recently opened territory.
"I have sympathy for the many employees who have lost their jobs, but I have zero sympathy for those who are dancing on someone else's grave," he said.
Wiljo is one of many companies who are beginning to take court action against the recently-fallen oil company.
Singaporean oil trader Hin Leong Trading also recently announced that it would be seeking S$1.67 million (U.S.$1.3 million) in court.
