Harvey Gulf Receives ABS and USCG Approvals for LNG-Bunkering Vessel
Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC (Harvey Gulf) says its construction drawings for an liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled, 4,000 cubic metre (cbm) LNG supply vessel (ATB) has received approvals from ABS and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), Marine Log reports.
The vessel is said to have been designed for both ship-to-ship and shore side LNG transfers, with the ability to load and discharge at a rate of 600 cbm per hour.
"This project and the methodical approach in which it has been developed is very different from any other similar vessel design project undertaken thus far," said Chad Verret, EVP of LNG Operation at Harvey Gulf.
"We are designing a gas carrier that will provided ship-to-ship transfers of LNG to vessels utilizing LNG as a fuel and to do ship-to-shore transfers to small scale marine distribution infrastructure. All while having the ability to load at any Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) compliant off take facility."
Harvey Gulf says it worked closely with Waller Marine Inc (Waller Marine), ABS, and USCG in the development of the design, and as such, the ATB design meets all current domestic and International gas carrier requirements.
Further, Harvey Gulf notes that it also worked with Wärtsilä to ensure the design's cargo systems integrator enables both functionality and consistency in the system's operations.
"The development of this vessel design highlights our commitment to and involvement in the strengthening of the domestic LNG marine fuel market, and our continued commitment to a leadership role in developing a robust supply infrastructure," said Shane J. Guidry, Chairman and CEO at Harvey Gulf.
In February, Ship & Bunker reported that Harvey Gulf had completed the first lLNG bunkering of a vessel from its newly completed LNG terminal facility, located at its Port Fourchon, Louisiana operation base - the first such facility in North America.
