An upcoming forum to be held later this month in Washington D.C. will feature a discussion on methanol bunkers, event organizers The Methanol Institute, Institute for the Analysis of Global Security (IAGS) and the U.S. Energy Security Council (USESC) have announced.

The 2017 Washington Methanol Policy Forum will be held on June 13th at the National Press Club, and will include a panel on Methanol Vessel Fuel Blending.

Confirmed speakers include Per Steffenson of Stena Lines; Joanne Ellis of SSPA Sweden; René Laursen of MAN; and Jason Chesko of Methanex-Waterfront Shipping

"The 3rd Washington Methanol Policy Forum will bring together industry leaders, energy policy experts, congressional and executive branch officials, academics and the media to share information about methanol's global penetration of the transportation fuel market and its implications for the U.S. economy," Methanol Institute says.

"Experts from around the world will provide the most up-to-date information on methanol fuel blending around the globe."

As maritime emissions regulations continue to tighten, in recent years the focus on methanol bunkers has grown as operators look for cost effective compliance solutions.

While the backing and uptake of the alternative marine fuel currently lags some way behind LNG, in 2015 Stena Line notably launched the world's first methanol powered ferry, Stena Germanica.
