Royal Dutch Shell plc (Shell) Tuesday announced that Shell Offshore Inc. (Shell Offshore) has taken delivery of its third liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered Offshore Supply Vessel (OSV), the Harvey Liberty, set to support Shell's deep-water operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The vessel, which is on charter from Harvey Gulf International Marine, LLC (Harvey Gulf), was delivered to Shell at Port Fourchon, Louisiana, and joins sister ships the Harvey Energy and Harvey Power.

"This is an important milestone for Shell and Harvey Gulf," said Tahir Faruqui, Shell's General Manager LNG North America.

"The Harvey Liberty highlights our efforts to grow LNG as a fuel in the transport sector, and is a welcome addition to our portfolio."

The vessel is said to run on 99 percent LNG, providing the vessel operator with the ability to meet sulfur and nitrogen oxide emissions regulations within the North American Emission Control Area (ECA).

Loading from Harvey Gulf's Port Fourchon LNG bunkering facility, the Harvey Liberty is noted to utilise three dual fuel Wärtsilä Corporation (Wärtsilä) engines, and has ability to operate for as much as 15 days before needing to refuel.

"Harvey Gulf is excited to share these historical maritime events with Shell. This represents another significant step in the path for Harvey Gulf to establish itself as a leader in utilising LNG as a marine fuel," said Shane Guidry, CEO and Chairman of Harvey Gulf .

In February, Harvey Gulf announced it had completed the first LNG bunkering of a vessel from its newly completed LNG terminal - the first such facility in North America.
