LSFO Supply From New Bunkers International Barge in Colombia
Bunkers International Corporation (Bunkers International) said today it is to start supply of low sulfur bunkers in Buena Ventura, Colombia, which will take place from a new 1,000 metric tonne (mt) bunker barge.
According to the emailed announcement, which was made with Bunkers International's joint venture partners Australian bunkering, and Vanoil, the Bocas Del Carare barge is fully operational and licensed to fuel ships in Buena Ventura.
"Buena Ventura is Colombia's largest volume port, but it has long suffered from the lack of bunker barges," said John Canal, CEO of Bunkers International.
"The Bocas Del Carare has a 1,000 mt capacity, when we combine it with our other two barges of 650 mt and 400 mt, we now have the capacity to deliver in higher volumes to vessels calling in Buena Ventura that are going trans-Asia and to North America."
The construction of the new duel product barge was completed earlier this year and supports both high and low sulfur fuel.
Bunkers International said the low sulfur IFO380 has a typical sulfur content between 0.85 and 0.90 percent, and was expected "to be competitive with all West Coast options."
