After recording a strong performance in July, bunker sales in Singapore during August fell almost 7 percent month-on-month to 3,488,100 metric tonnes (mt) for all products, according to the latest data published by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The total was also down slightly year-on-year - 67,900 mt lower than August 2012's 3,556,000 mt.

The year to date total for all products currently stands at 2,8110,700 mt, 838,500 mt lower than the year to date total at this point last year.

Key grade IFO380 for August 2013 was down 7.3 percent to 2.57 million mt, while IFO180 dropped 14.7 percent month-on-month to 69,700 mt.

500 cSt product easily maintained its position as Singapore's second most popular grade of fuel with sales of 693,000 mt, a total that was 3.0 percent lower month-on-month but was still the second best month of sales for the product on record.

Despite the lower sales volumes, the number of vessel calls for bunkers during August was up 164 year-on-year to 3,275, while total vessel calls were also up, rising 1,096 over August 2012 to 11,921.
