Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has said it has delivered the first of two new Platform Supply Vessels (PSV) to Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), saying it is the first shipyard in the world to build and deliver the new "high-tech" UT 755 CD Rolls Royce series of PSV.

The SCI Nalanda, a diesel electric PSV at 79 x 16 metres with four 994 KW diesel generator sets and two Nos 1470 KW Azimuth thrusters, was delivered on August 14, 2012 in the presence of SCI Chairman and Managing Director Shri S Hajara and CSL Chairman and Managing Director Cmde K Subramaniam.

The second ship is expected to be delivered in September 2012.

Rolls Royce say their UT 755 CD design has efficient hull design and solutions that minimise environmental impact and improve the comfort and safety of the crew.

The vessel features a redundant dynamic positioning system (DP2) and has been given the "CLEAN DESIGN" notation by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the highest level of Comfort class COMF-V(3)C(3) signifying low noise and vibration level for human comfort on the vessel, and a Nautical Safety Offshore Vessel (NAUT OSV (A)) notation for ergonomic and safety requirements of its bridge systems.

External fire fighting (FiFi-1) equipment is also on the vessel having fixed, stainless steel tanks for carriage of low flash liquids like methanol and is outfitted to meet UK Offshore Operator Association (UKOOA type-C)  requirements for emergency rescue and recovery for up to 20 rescues.

The vessel is Indian flagged, dually classed under the Rules and Regulations of DNV and Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) with Mumbai as the homeport.

CSL currently has 28 ships under construction - 20 Coast Guard Fast Patrol Vessels , seven Offshore Support ships to Indian and Foreign owners, and an Aircraft Carrier for the Indian Navy.
