The reconstruction of the bunkering facility at the port of Nevelsk on the island of Sakhalin, in Russia's Far East, will be completed by the end of 2016, Aslan Tadtayev, head of facility owner Gornyak-1 LLC has told Russian market specialists PortNews IAA.

Tadtayev said the works  began in 2014.

Modernization to tanks for both light and dark fuels was said to have already been completed, while a boiler house is also being updated, and "state-of-the-art" equipment for transferring heavy fuel oil is also being installed.

The tanks have a capacity of 10,200 cbm.

The bunkering complex has remained open during the reconstruction, and is today "partly operational."

The investment in the new facility is estimated to be about RUB 80 million ($ 1.2 million).

In December of 2015 Ship & Bunker reported that a Russian tanker had run aground at Nevelsk.
