A bunker spill on the Yangtze River in China last week, caused after the containership CMA CGM Florida collided with the Panama-registered Zhoushan, has now been cleaned up, the country's Global Times reports.

As of 10 am last Wednesday, the fuel was reported to have spilled over 90,000 square meters of the sea, but authorities did not reveal how much of the 5,000 tonnes of fuel said to be onboard Florida actually ended up in the water.

Due to hazardous cargo onboard Florida, which had the potential to explode, Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration had initially asked the damaged vessel to anchor far from the coast for safety reasons.

However a shift in the weather put vessel it danger of splitting apart, so was asked to sail into Yangshan Port in Shanghai where it is now berthed.
