Aging Essar Shipping Bulk Carrier Rearrested in Singapore
The capesize bulk carrier Badri Prasad has been arrested in Singapore, according to the latest records from the Supreme Court of Singapore.
The 1990-built 151,400 dwt vessel is owned by India-based Essar Shipping, and was previously arrested on January 18, 2016.
The vessel was also arrested in Singapore in January 2015, after Germany-based Dr Peters took action against Essar Shipping over a non-payment dispute involving a separate vessel.
The latest arrest took place last Friday, March 11, 2016 at 3:00pm local time following action by local law firm Gurbani & Co. LLC.
The circumstances leading to the arrest are currently unknown, but such action is typical in instances of payment dispute.
Essar Shipping Managing director Captain Anoop Kumar Sharma was recently quoted by Tradewinds as saying Badri Prasad was one of the vessels it planned to replace with younger tonnage over the next 12 months.
As Ship & Bunker reported yesterday, the Leader Ship Management controlled Bodrum was also arrested last Friday.
