Skangas AS (Skangas) Tuesday announced that it bunkered Furetank Rederi AB (Furetank) tanker, Fure West, with liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time since the vessel's conversion to dual-fuel propulsion.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, Furetank began the process of retrofitting Fure West for LNG propulsion in 2015.

"We are very satisfied that we have now completed the conversion to LNG propulsion on the product tanker Fure West, and are able to offer first class shipping services to the market using the clean fuel LNG," said Lars Höglund, CEO and owner of Furetank.

"We are convinced that our strategy to invest in an environmentally-friendly propulsion solution, for both the conversion of the Fure West and the four new-builds in the Gothia Tanker Alliance, is the right decision for the future."

The bunkering operation is said to have taken place at the Skangas LNG terminal in the Port of Risavika in Norway.

"We are very proud to offer a flexible, easily accessible LNG bunkering service directly at our LNG Terminal in Risavika," said Tor Morten Osmundsen, CEO of Skangas.

"We operate a LNG infrastructure ready to provide LNG bunkering services along the coast of the Nordic countries as well as Ship-to-Ship deliveries. Availability of LNG bunkering services is not an issue any longer."

Last week, Ship & Bunker reported that Bomin Linde LNG GmbH & Co. KG (Bomin Linde LNG) announced that it had signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Furetank detailing long-term cooperation for the supply of LNG in the Baltic Sea region.

As Ship & Bunker also reported, Gothia Tanker Alliance now has six "state of the art" modern dual-fuel tanker vessels on order, with Furetank set to own three of the vessels, Rederi AB Älvtank (Älvtank) to own two, and Thun Tankers to own one.
