Bahri Dry Bulk Gets Eco-Vessel
Middle Eastern shipping company Bahri Dry Bulk, a joint venture of the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) and Arabian Agricultural Services Company (ARASCO), has received the first of five fuel-saving vessels contracted in 2012, Bahri said in a statement.
The five 82,000 deadweight-tonne (dwt), 229-meter-long ships, built at a Japanese shipyard, are considered econfriendly and consume less fuel than standard vessels.
Bahri Dry Bulk will use the new ships to replace five chartered vessels, which it had been chartering out to ARASCO.
The remaining four vessels should be delivered in the first half of next year.
Bahri Dry Bulk, which is 60 percent owned by Bahri and 49 percent by ARASCO, began operations in 2012, and Bahri reported that it made a profit that year, though it did not specify the amount.
