Hamburg Süd Raises CO2e Reduction Goals
Hamburg Süd will says it will raise its carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) reduction goals after meeting its previous target ahead of schedule.
The company had originally aimed to reduce its CO2e emissions by 26 percent between 2009 and 2020, but will not raise that goal to 45 percent.
Hamburg said that investments made in ship efficiency, chartering energy-efficient ships, and optimizing vessel deployment, along with the expansion of the average ship size, had all contributed to reaching targets faster.
The emission goals also encompass Hamburg's owned and chartered container ships, and are measured per unit of transport performance (TEUxkm).
Hamburg announced back in September that it would be signing a cooperation agreement with United Arab Shipping Company (UASC), which will also give the company a side benefit of a foothold in the Ocean Three alliance.
