A small oil film has been observed on the Black Sea after a cargo ship sank off the Bulgarian coast Saturday, news site Sea News Turkey reports.

The general cargo vessel Elland was carrying 10 tonnes of fuel when it sank.

The vessel experienced an engine blackout Friday night while it was carrying plywood from Constanta to Izmir and was anchored, but it began listing to the side, and the crew abandoned ship on Saturday.

The Elland is a 2,864 deadweight tonne (dwt) general cargo ship built in 1982 and registered in Saint Kitts & Nevis, according to ship data provider Maritime-Connector.

The vessel's owner and manager are Albros Shipping & Trading and Bora Shipping Industry & Trading, both based in Istanbul, Turkey.
