"Substantially More Fuel Efficient" Ferries Introduced
Scotland's Western Ferries showcased two new fuel-efficient ferries at a naming ceremony Thursday, local newspaper the Dunoon Observer reports.
"These new ferries are larger, faster, have improved on board passenger facilities as well as being substantially more fuel efficient and produce lower exhaust gas emissions as compared to the vessels they are replacing," said Managing Director Gordon Ross.
The ferry operator, which operates a passenger service between Gourock and Dunoon, according to its website, officially named the two new ships the MV Sound of Seil and MV Sound of Soay.
The ships were built at Cammell Laird's shipyard in Birkenhead, England and are finishing up their sea trials
"These new vessels now mean that all four of the company's vessels and the new berthing structures were all made in Britain, at a combined cost now exceeding £17m ($26.2 million)" Ross said.
